A Blog About a Blog
We all know that writing is a solitary business, which suits most of us just fine. We get to socialise on Facebook and Twitter without actually having to get out of our chairs. But sometimes it’s nice to meet other writers in person and if they’re kinky writers (let me rephrase that – writers of kinky stuff), that’s even better. Chuck in some topic related seminars and workshops, and you have Eroticon, a conference that I was lucky enough to attend last weekend.
Eroticon isn’t just for writers of erotic fiction. Anyone can attend, so there’s usually an interesting mix of authors, journalists and sex bloggers. A combination of people like that makes for a great event, trust me.
Now, I have to be honest and admit that one of my main reasons for wanting to go was because of the social side. Don’t get me wrong, I’m always up for learning something new, but one of the draws for me is that I get to meet new people as well as a chance to catch up with old friends. I do enjoy being around others who love writing as much as I do. We’re all so different, but have one fundamental thing in common that brings us together. It’s wonderful talking to like-minded people who understand our ritualistic quirks. People whose writing I admire and respect.
The workshops at the conference were varied and informative. Each one I attended taught me something, but it was the one about blogging that had the biggest impact on me. You see, I’ve been meaning to start a blog for about two years now and the fact that this is my first one, pretty much says it all. But thanks to @InnocentLoverboy and his workshop called Blogging 102, I am finally doing something about it.
I left this year’s Eroticon with a fantastic goody bag and a wealth of new knowledge, which was no surprise, given past events. But what I didn’t expect was to leave with the determination and resolve to start something that I’ve been putting off for so long.
So, on top of all the laughter, fun and socialising at this year’s Eroticon, and in addition to learning lots of fascinating new things about the world of erotic writing, I am finally able to share my first blog with you. I’m already thinking about the next one and am even planning a newsletter in the near future. I’d say that’s a pretty good result from a weekend jolly.
If you would like to know more about Eroticon, do check out their website (details below). I must just end with a huge thank you to Molly Moore, Michael Knight and Girl on the Net for putting together such a memorable event. I’m already looking forward to next year.
